How long have you been in London?
A: I’ve been here for five years, from 2011.
Why do you choose to work in London? A: It was an occasional opportunity, I filmed products advertisements for getting some pocket money when I studied in university in London. And occasionally, my production was selected by an advertising company who gave me the job offer. I’m glad to stay in London and I’m happy to be a director here.
What’s your role in job? A: When I worked for GEO CAST advertising productions in my first two years in London, I was a director and filmmaker of commercial advertisements. After that, I came to my current company. I am the co-partner of the company and I am mainly responsible for operating cases and filming some videos.
How did you get your current job? A: It is my hobby and dream to make films. I didn’t to plan anything, just occasionally recognized my partner and we found that we had similar ideas about running a filming company. So we began to operate the company which mainly focus on filmic productions.
Do you have any plan about your job prospect? A: I never make plans for myself. I just focus on my interests and my current job and when I meet good opportunities, I catch them.
When did you first realize that you have talent in filmmaking? A: When I was a high school student, it was all about interests. I took a DVD and made a few videos myself. Because I was not rich at that time, I just learnt how to make movies myself instead of go to professional institute to learn it. I showed them to my friends in school and they really like them. Then when I became a university student, I had more knowledge than peers because I’ve learnt before. I once accompanied my friend to go to the exam of director. I became more and more confident because of the encouragement from my teacher, thus, I decided to continue learning to become a director.
Do you have any work experience before becoming a director? A: I used to be a photographer at Geo Cast, UK. I took jobs like commercial ads and shooting photos for fashion magazines.
Which one do you think is the most difficult part during your working process? A: Well, that would be creative planning. Because our company just started our business. At most of time, we need to plan the project by ourselves, this is the most
difficult one. For example, we just received a task as shooting a MV for a new singer, we then had to create all the stories by ourselves.
Why did you change your job? Which one do you prefer?
A: Because if I have to choose between photographer and director, I prefer to become a director, I’m interested in making movies and shooting MVs. However, as a matter of fact, my favorite subjects are History, Politics and Philosophy. I am a curious person, I really enjoy exploring the world. The second hobby is directing, but it seems like I’ve got more opportunities in directing rather than something associated with History, Politics and Philosophy.
Do you have any project recently?
A: We are preparing a MV for a new singer. At the current stage, we are looking for the actress and choosing the place for shooting the MV. Also, we are doing a Chinese variety show called Excellent Partner.
Could you tell me some works that you have done before?
A: I took photos for many fashion magazines, like Vogue China, Eue. I also took photos for London fashion week, as well as landmarks in London, such as Selfridges, Harrods and Coven Garden. I sometimes make advertising videos for stars like Kwai Lun Mei, Jay Chou. Also, as I mentioned before, Excellent Partner.
Could you please tell me some related fields of fashion that you’ve involved? A: Actually, all of my works are related to fashion and art, for example, fashion magazines, fashion clothes and accessories, and stars.
